![]() ![]() Something that also shakes up the turn-based formula is the area system, where your party and enemies can end up in different areas of the battlefield isolated from the others, allowing them to only join the others when their particular site is wiped clean of enemies. Each character in your party is classified as either a Power, Speed, or Technique type, and exploiting enemy weaknesses will be key to winning. One Piece Odyssey also employs a simple rock-paper-scissors mechanic in the game. Like in more recent JRPGs, enemy encounters are no longer random, and you can see your foes in the field, where you can even get an advantage if you get the jump on them. If turn-based combat is your thing, then you’ll feel right at home here in One Piece Odyssey. While we wished there were more areas to try aside from some caverns and walking around Adio’s hut, it simply means the demo made us want to see more of what the island has to offer. Visually, the island of Waford looks vibrant and pleasing to the eyes, something that could have come right out of an anime episode. Despite not appearing in either the manga or anime, both characters have personalities that players will want to learn more about. While Lim definitely has a mysterious aura about her, the dual pistol-wielding Adio feels too friendly for someone the party just met, and it feels like there’s more to him than meets the eye. There are no two ways about it, One Piece Odyssey has Oda-sensei’s signature all over it, leading to a really faithful and enjoyable experience.Įarly on in One Piece Odyssey, players will be introduced to two new characters, Lim and Adio. The same can be said of other aspects, like all of the sights and sounds you encounter in Waford. They look great and move and act exactly as you’d expect the Straw Hat Pirates to do. Not only does it have the original Japanese voice cast, but the game versions of the Straw Hats look very faithful to the source material. Expect dungeons, quests, puzzles and more.Even from the demo alone, One Piece Odyssey will feel like a game that fans of the series will really dig. There are three different battle types, power, speed and technique. Combat featured turn-based gameplay, with enemies having attack-type weaknesses. The full-fledged JRPG will take players on an adventure with iconic characters from the long-running manga. In case you missed it, One Piece Odyssey will be launching this January. What won’t be available in the demo are the memory worlds that will take Luffy and his crew to Alabasta and Water Seven. You will also be introduced to the basic mechanics of the game. Players will embark with Luffy, who will meet Lim and Adio. A bonus will be given to those who complete the demo, rewarding players with a “Golden Jelly” item. The demo will also carry over progress to the full game, if you plan on buying One Piece Odyssey you can carry on where you left off. The demo will also include parts that were previously made available at events.
